Week 14 of my pregnancy and I am feeling MUCH better. Each day I feel that I am getting a bit stronger with more energy. I have still been going to the gym and doing my regular workouts, however things are changing there! I cannot bend quite as far during the walking lunges as I had in the past, as my abdomen is starting to protrude and get in the way of the lunged leg! :)
I have been eating clean and nutritious meals this week, and not only do I feel I have gained energy, but that my mood has stabilized. I had dessert last weekend and the feeling I had afterwards was awful. I felt my heart rate was racing as my body was trying to get my blood sugar under control (what a horrible feeling!) and within an hour of eating the brownies I was so tired I could hardly stay awake. I will NOT be doing that again! There is nothing wrong with a treat every now and then, but forget those blood sugar spikes! It really leaves your body out of whack. If you do not know what I am talking about, then cut back on your sugar for a solid week, then have that big dessert you (think) you have to have! Honestly ask yourself what you think your body likes better...the healthy food or the junk! I bet you will agree with me the healthy food wins!
Two more weeks until our next appointment. The baby is really growing now. I am really excited to hear the heartbeat again and see how much he/she has grown!

Changing Your Mind
For my first post, perhaps something a bit philosophical, but I will start with a concrete example to get us started.
With my first pregnancy, things went beautifully routine, with a precious baby boy being born to us in 2008. What I did not expect were those last few pounds to "hang on" for quite some time afterward! In 2011, I transitioned to a stay-at-home mom, and this change (chasing after a toddler 16 hours a day) coupled with finding out we were pregnant, hit me from all sides, leaving me emotionally and physically drained.
Whether you are carrying a developing child or caring for small children, only certain people can truly understand the tremendous physical and mental stamina that is required for the job. In America, we tend to not put too much emphasis on this, showing happy mothers on television that can seem to handle it all.
Though all of us need help during these years (and we will definitely discuss these topics later) one thing that we have complete control over is THE FOOD WE PUT IN OUR MOUTHS. I am currently 14 weeks pregnant and have been AMAZED at the difference this change has made. I suffered with morning sickness like many of you out there, and did not make the best nutritional choices. However, as soon as the sickness started to subside a couple of weeks ago, I made the conscious decision to only eat foods that were natural, wholesome and "clean". What do I mean by eating clean? Click on www.eatcleandiet.com for more information on the approach I use.
In the midst of the chaos of our everyday lives of caring for ourselves and our children, we cannot let our nutrition get lost in the chaos. We simply CANNOT let this happen. The title of this post is "changing your mind" and I ask you to change yours. Change your mind for once and for all that you will make healthy food choices, both for you, the baby possibly growing inside of you and those in your family. The details will come in later posts, but I ask you today " will you change your mind?"

Welcome to the Blog!
Welcome to Healthy Lives! I have created this blog to discuss health and fitness topics for women who are currently pregnant and/or in the postpartum period. My goal is to educate and communicate the power of living a fit life through exercise and a clean nutrition plan to keep you feeling your best through this season of life having and raising young children.
I will document some of my own findings as I journey through my 2nd pregnancy, including my own postpartum period. I hope you will join me and benefit from this information!
